Lunar landscape in northern Chile
In northern Chile, the Atacama Desert covers 105.000 square kilometres and runs 1.600 kilometres along the Pacific coast. This is one of the driest places in the world. The landscape is characterized by volcanoes, sand, rocks and high altitude lakes. Many places the it resembles a lunar landscape. The photo was taken in a place called Valle de la Luna / Valley of the Moon. Sand and rock formations in various shapes and sizes. The landscape has been carved by water and wind. The range of colours and the texture does make you think you are on the moon. The valley is located approx. 10 kilometres from San Pedro de Atacama, which makes a natural place to stay when exploring this part of Atacama.
